Jackson, tremendously handsome as Superman. Cade, rocking the Tiger outfit Jackson wore in 2011. And 2012.

A successful, fun night in Park Slope/Windsor Terrace. About 60! and a few drops of rain that quickly passed.

We must have hit 75 houses, pumpkins full to the top when we got home.

Jackson went to school this morning with his Clark Kent forehead-curl still intact.

Halloween seems like ages ago. Following the Hurricane and subsequent Wacky Wednesday life (no school, no transit, no gas - but thankfully yes power, health and safety), we weren't even sure Halloween was happening. It did, as everyone was itching to get out of their houses and there was a real feeling of community and friendliness out there. Jackson opted out of his skeleton costume and wore last year's tiger outfit - fine by me because it was much warmer. Cade was Elmo in cousin Sammy's old costume, thank you Elmo! Our trick-r-treating was cute short by a debilitating tummy-ache (Jackson), but we came home with buckets of candy nevertheless. The best treat of the night was hands-down Kate's peanut butter cookie.

We're hard at work on costumes for this year. I have to say, Jackson's always been pretty cute. This year we're taking a turn towards scary. Which is funny because Jackson is the most scaredy-cat kid we know. He can't even watch Nemo, the Muppet Movie, or The Little Engine That Could, without backing away from the TV in terror. In fact, we're already worried about trick-or-treating and his reaction to what's out there on Halloween. Hopefully, there will be no Walking Dead zombies out at 4:30 this year. We do have to walk by the Middle School on our way home. Could be trouble - wish us luck.

Cade walked in the house, saw this spider garland hanging, and cried out, "Mama! It's Halloween!"

My favorite part of Jackson's costume didn't last long - tiger whiskers = pine needles. They itched so they didn't stay on long.

We had so much fun trick or treating. Jackson was much more participatory this year. Cade screamed "Trick or Treating!!!" at every stoop. Jon met us on 8th Ave. We made our way back home, dumped out our candy, chose one each, then organized the rest of the candy in order of preference. "Then this one, then this one, then this one....."

Jon and I were exhausted when we got home.

Every year about this time I go and look longingly at the little boy costumes John Derian sells.

it's coming along

Jackson and I spent half of Saturday working on his Halloween costume. Since I can pretty much only sew flat things (pillowcases, napkins, etc), the pants are going to be a tight fit, because they are basically two flat pieces of cloth sewed together. Good thing he's such a skinny little boy.

Add 'making two Halloween costumes' to the list of things I never realized would take so much time.

wolf-bot

This year Jackson wanted to be a wolf-bot (head of a wolf, body of a robot). Unfortunately, his costume (box covered in tin foil), was not that comfortable, so it lasted all of 7 minutes. Fortunately, Amanda suggested he turn into Teen Wolf for trick-or-treating, so we put on a numbered shirt and a sport-like sweatshirt. No one was the wiser, and in fact it didn't really matter because he did not want to say trick or treat, or get out of his stroller, and about 6 blocks into it was crying, cold and miserable.

The trick was on Mama this year! Ha ha Mama! You tried!

Maybe next year will be better. Or the next year.

Or the year after that.

Needless to say, he was not too happy about the mustache or the barbells. But he did get lots on compliments and smiles on the street.
