The Marvel Encyclopedia Updated And Expanded
Every night before he goes to bed, Jackson has been drawing a superhero in his drawing book. It's so cool. I love the details he chooses to include and the way he writes the name of the guy. He's already filled up one book (of good guys), and about to start on his second book (of bad guys).

firsts, drawing of a face - Cade
Since I blogged about Jackson's first face drawing here, I thought in all fairness I should put up Cade's first face drawing.
I like the one eye. Very alien-esque. Picasso-esque. Chakra-esque.
And the hair seems appropriate.
Good job, Cade.

giant peony
This afternoon Jackson and I snuck away while Cade was "napping" and Jon was working. We went into a public garden near our house and discovered this giant, gorgeous, pink peony. I'd never seen anything like it.
Later Jackson drew this in his nightly journal:

It was sweet because we'd been talking about how we had an adventure, just the two of us, which is kind of rare.
I love all the overlapping petals he drew - and the fact that it's one continuous line. Now that I think about it, I think that's an exercise from "Drawing from the Right Side of Your Brain."

young guns
final piece:

Many moons ago, Jon was awarded the honor of becoming a ADC Young Guns member - "ADC Young Guns is the only global, cross-disciplinary portfolio competition that identifies today's vanguard of young creative professionals, age 30 and under."
Did I say, many moons ago? He's closer to 50 than 30 now. OK not really. But close.
They recently had a show of alumni, where each member received a letterpress poster and was asked to put their own "X" on it.
Jackson helped him do it. It was pretty cool.
He didn't make it to the opening, but here are some pics of the event.
PS: They are doing a drawing battle - where they each draw things then take turns firing across the page at each other. Jackson wins every time.

first drawing of a face

So it seems, artistically, Jackson has entered the "Pre-Schematic Stage:"
* Announced by the appearance of circular images and lines which seem to suggest a human or animal figure. Also, please note the "boogers in the nose."
* During this stage the schema (the visual idea) is developed.
* The drawings show what the child perceives as most important about the subject.
* There is little understanding of space - objects are placed in a haphazard way throughout the picture
* The use of colour is more emotional than logical

drawing little lambs

Can you tell from the picture that he has a little lamb in his hands? And that he was singing "Baa Baa Black Sheep"? Pretty damn cute.

map quest

Abigail's friend's daughter drew this awesome map of the US. I hope one day Jackson and Cade will draw maps like this.
