Monday we went Saugerties Lighthouse, rated one of the top five lighthouses in America. The stone lighthouse, built on a 40 by 50 foot timber framed pier, was completed in 1838, and its light consisted of five whale oil lamps set in parabolic reflectors.

Two other things: it's also a Bed and Breakfast, booked through the end of the year, and thelighthousekeeper keeps a journal about his life there.
