crafty

Made you some magnets last week, using some Martha Stewart Crafts stickers I had squirreled away. You like them.

for a good cause

Jackson, your friend Jonathan Silberberg is riding his bike in support of MS this weekend. You're too young to donate but maybe someone else out there wants to. That'd be nice.

felicitous

Yesterday we walked by Kerri Russell on Dean and Hoyt and she smiled at you.

bunny hat

I finally got around to framing your little bunny hat that your Great-Aunt Jane made you. Mimi saw it on the cover of an old MS Baby, and asked Jane to make it for you. & here you are wearing it when you are 2 sweet little days old.

i know!

Would you like to be Little Lord Fauntleroy for Halloween?
This suit was worn by six-year old Walter Hamilton Moberly during the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria's reign. In June 1887, Walter travelled to London especially to watch the Queen drive through the streets to Westminster Abbey. He wore this new suit of mauve plush, with a matching hat and a lace collar.
From the Victoria & Albert Museum.

3,653 too many

The total distance from Amsterdam to New York is 3,654 miles. This is equivalent to 5,881 kilometers or 3,175 nautical miles.

{amsterdam image from here, brooklyn image from here - - and Jackson, that's the view from your sliding glass door}

Maiden & Moonflower

There's a little bit of pink wallpaper in your room that was fine when you were a newborn, but now I think it's time to change it. I saw in the NY Times that Kiki Smith has designed a wallpaper pattern called Maiden and Moonflower (see above). I met Kiki while working at PaceWildenstein. In fact her real name is Chiara (see below).

PS. Quite frankly, I don't know what 'in the future' really means.

a collaboration

between you and me today.

baby's first pet

Jackson, this is Kitty. You may not remember him since he went to Grammy's about 5 months after you were born. Now his name is Henry, because it was just confusing everybody by calling him Kitty even though he's a boy cat. Like Kitty for a boy is so strange? I don't know. Anyway, he is the sweetest little cat, sometimes he was a trouble-maker (for example, he would like to sit on top of the gas stove because it was toasty...gross, and there was the one time after you were born he escaped out your sliding glass door onto the roof (I think because you were getting all the attention and basically he wasn't getting much love anymore) and Jon was so mad and him and went out and got him) but in general a really really good cat. He is much happier now at Grammy's - where he goes outside, chases mice, lies in the sun, sleeps, and eats.

2 more days!

Jackson, Daddy comes home in TWO days!

just wondering

Am I a bad mommy because we don't brush your eight teeth every night, I skip pages in the books I read you, and you have a huge dreadlock on the back of your head that you won't let me comb out?

happy birthday Auntie Gwyn!

I always have so much fun with you (& Ajax). I hope you are having fun on your birthday!
Love, Jackson

happy anniversary john & ruth

Congratulations, Auntie Ruthie & Uncle John!

lions and tigers.....

I don't know where Michael found these for you but I love them.

Petunia was a goose

Mimi scored last week at the New Fairfield Public Library Book Sale, coming home with DOZENS of awesome books, including this 1950 copy of Petunia (purchased at F.A.O. Schwartz, New York, N.Y. for $2.75).

Notice the dates on the check-out page. The last one was December 2, 1975. THAT COULD HAVE BEEN ME!!!

baby's first sign language

Happened last week! I forgot to note it. I'm so proud of you. Now you use it all the time. More cheerios. More juice. More climbing up on the chair. More music. Good job, little buddy!

someday

Someday I hope we get to travel to Europe together, like I did with my family when I was young (Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Ireland, England, Turkey (does Turkey count as Europe?)). Here's a picture Daddy sent today from Holland.

daddy!

What's that you say, Jackson? You wanted to tell Daddy you hope his shoot goes well today? Ok, I'll let him know.

Oh and also.....we miss you.

{good luck card available on etsy's paperedtogether}

treat

Today on our way home from the farm we visited, we stopped at the Red Rooster in Brewster, NY. We had soft serve ice cream cones (chocolate & vanilla - I call it swirl, they called it twist) while you played on the 18-wheeler-coin-machine-thingy.

busy day

Today was a good day.
  1. visited Great-Grammy
  2. petted the cows
  3. saw a re-enactment of Washington's ride through Sherman, Connecticut
  4. saw a heron up close
  5. ate peach pie
  6. watched a stunt airplane do a loop-di-loop in the sky
  7. swung in a hammock
  8. kicked our feet in an icy brook
  9. and made hats out of big leaves

feeling like fall here

I love this mantel of white gourds - and love that it's called 'who needs orange?' on melissann's flickr photostream.

who's no.1?

When we video i-chatted Daddy this morning, he was wearing this shirt. I think it's very appropriate.

hell-o, hell-o, hell-o (sung) (get it?)

I love this vintage Barbershop toy that paperdollsforboys is selling. Especially since two of the guys are named Corky Sr. and Corky Jr., which is what your dad and Uncle Sam call each other.

{Found from an old ohdeedoh post.}

not happy

Oh little buddy, you are cutting your molars right now, and it is not fun. You're a drooly-runny-nose-clingy-bleeding-crying-not-eating-sad little boy. I hope it's over soon.

happens once a year

Is it still too early to start thinking about Halloween? I love these handmade costumes by Cammi Heath although I can't find any information on them anywhere.

There's always those amazing french costumes at John Derrian......

{Little Indian and Pinocchio found on Small Magazine's Autumn O8 issue}

auto bad

Poor Daddy. Stranded on the Autobahn in Germany.
Hope you got home safely Jon.

back in CT...

sweater love!

I almost fell out of my seat just now when I went to peruse Abigail's new blog (which I go to about 10x/day) and saw her plans to make this sweater for you. You might remember that Abigail knitted this special sweater for you last year. Abigail - I've said it before, but I'll say it again. You are amazing!

baby's first night without me

Jackson, for the first time I will be going away without you. In October, I'm going upstate with Brett and some other ladies. I'm already anxious about leaving you.

And yes, that's where we're going. The cabin that was on the cover of Living. I have this issue somewhere. I have to go try and find it.

sweetest shower invite ever

While looking through your half-finished (or half-started) baby book yesterday, I came across this invitation that Neala had made me for a baby shower at work. It might be my all-time favorite invitation, ever.

i don't really like keira knightly but......

I hope daddy will babysit you so I can go see this.
If only for the costumes.

I tried to read the book but fell asleep every time I opened it. I always did like cover though.

a room to wish for

Gosh, what I wouldn't give for a a room like this for you to play in.....

{found on d.sharp journal, originally from Living Etc. }
{ps i love the design of d. sharp journal. I'm thinking a re-design of Molasses Candy might be in order.....}

daddy+amsterdam+again=sad face

Jackson, it's you and me again, buddy. Daddy's gone to Amsterdam to make another commercial. And just like last time, it's only been 4 hours, and we miss him already.

{images from Michael Karshis on Flickr, who writes: Ephemera Book Scan 001. This is the last page of this really sweet notebook I scored at an Amsterdam flea market back in 1997. This last page is filled with miscellaneous ephemeral items but the bulk of it is old sugar packets (late 1940's - early 1960's?) from train stations from throughout Holland.}

How cool is that?! Jon can you bring me back something like this?
