trouble

Jackson and Cade,

Your mama and dada are coming up on their 7th wedding anniversary. If you have any ideas what I should get your father, please post your suggestions in the comments section. What? You don't post comments? Really. You don't even use the computer yet? Oh really? Well then, what's this picture of then.....and this one too? A-ha. I thought so.

7th Wedding Anniversary

For the seventh anniversary, traditional materials are copper and wool and the modern materials are brass and desk sets.

With copper and brass, ideas might include jewelry and home decorations such as sculptures, furniture, or appliances.

For wool, this might be a decorative rug or perhaps a wool blanket to cuddle under together when watching a movie. Or you could give clothing such as a warm shawl for her or a sweater for him.

congratulations!

Mimi and Nonno - married 45 years! That's longer than I've been alive!

Pearl S. Buck said, "A good marriage is one which allows for change and growth in the individuals and in the way they express their love." Nonno, that is why Mimi doesn't want you to eat popcorn from a tin can, Jackson's leftover bagel, or anything else that tastes good. And Mimi, that is why Nonno lets you garden all day and watch the Yankees all night.

We love you so much and are so happy for you as you celebrate this milestone!

the good anniversary

me + cade

Last Tuesday we got ourselves together and took Cade out with us to celebrate an early (6-year) anniversary dinner. I loved our dinner at The Good Fork in Red Hook. What I want again: "steak and eggs" Korean style: grilled skirt steak, kimchee rice, fried egg. From our window seat we watched the massive thunder and lightning storm over the river, then made a run for it home. It was awesome.

Thank you, Jon.

5 wedding pictures, 5 gift ideas

Today is our five year wedding anniversary. Daddy + me = five years married. Five happy happy years! According to tradition, the 5 year anniversary is symbolized by............wood. Romantic, no? I thought long and hard about what to give your father for a gift. My first thought was a boat, since that's made out of wood. I thought it appropriate since Jon can sail and that always impressed me to no end. So Jon, I wanted to get you this:

BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM BUILT SCHOONER! But even though it lists the price as negotiable, I thought it might be a little bit out of our range. So then I found this one:

A DUYFKEN 37" wooden ship model wood sailing boat! on ebay. No bids yet, and bidding's still open. Then I scrapped that idea and wanted to get you a tree. But oh yeah, we live in Brooklyn on the third floor. And I would probably kill it anyway.

Then I found this print by our friend Todd St. John on 20x200. Wood blocks, perfect!

Then I thought, the opposite of wood is fire! And I've been thinking for a while that we need a fire extinguisher.

Good idea, right?! And look, you can get an entire little family of them! It can symbolize our happy little family.

Happy anniversary, Jon. I love you so very much.

PS I didn't actually get you anything yet but it's on its way.
PPS #5 picture from Jackson's Wayne Thiebaud's Counting board book.

PPPS I just found this picture and had to add it, because I love it:
