i love you

This is so sweet. This little t-shirt has a sign-language "I love you" on it. That's how we say good-night to Jackson when we sneak out of his room at night.

babies' first wedding

So Saturday we celebrated Brett and Bryan's wedding here in Brooklyn. It was beautiful. The ceremony was so heartfelt and moving. Brett was beautiful, Bryan was dapper, and of course, Gael and Hayden were stunning in their little suits.

I went to the Brooklyn Farmer's Market at 8 am and got buckets full of the most beautiful dahilas, cosmos, salvia, butterfly weed, a few zinnias and a cornflower blue flower I don't know the name of (Mom? Jane? Help?). Everyone pitched in, helping decorate with the tissue paper flower garlands (inspired by), the lanterns (inspired by), the lights, cleaning up, and the awesome photobooth. (I don't have any pictures from the photo booth yet but hopefully will soon.)

The Moroccan-inspired menu was delicious. The cupcakes were pretty, perfect, AND delicious.

Cade was all dressed up in his new bib from Aunt Penny. Jackson was all dressed up in his bow-tie I made last week (yes, I did it), and Abigail's gorgeous green hand-knit sweater.

When we were dancing, Hayden was throwing a green bowler up in the air. Jackson thought that was HILARIOUS. Last night during dinner, I was asked to play the "Hayden Hat song" 8, maybe 9 times in a row.

All around, it was a perfect, lovely celebration. Congratulations again to Brett, Bryan, Hayden & Gael. We love you all so much. (And it's no secret that Jackson doesn't just love Brett, but he LOVES her. He has a crush on her. And with good reason!) All the very best for your life together!

the good anniversary

me + cade

Last Tuesday we got ourselves together and took Cade out with us to celebrate an early (6-year) anniversary dinner. I loved our dinner at The Good Fork in Red Hook. What I want again: "steak and eggs" Korean style: grilled skirt steak, kimchee rice, fried egg. From our window seat we watched the massive thunder and lightning storm over the river, then made a run for it home. It was awesome.

Thank you, Jon.

thank you, Jon

For my beautiful necklace. I love it. It makes me smile every time I see it in the mirror.

I love you.

kickboxing note

Baby is really kicking up a storm lately. When Jackson started doing this, Jon wrote this note to him:
Dear Baby,

I'm glad you like kick-boxing, it will help you grow strong and healthy but try not to do it at night so mom can sleep. She does carry you around all day! Jeesh.

Love,
Papa

blankie

You've loved this blankie from the beginning, but now it has a name. You call it "Blue."

There's a photographer who based a whole series of work on children and their lovies. It's so sweet. See it here.

lists, a few of my favorite things

1. When you put your hand up to my mouth and tap it, which I finally figured out means, please sing to me.

2. This morning when you gave Dada a hug goodbye, then Mama a hug, then back to Dada, then said "Mama" cause you wanted a group hug, totally your own idea.

3. When I sing Froggy Went a Courtin', and you sing the mmm-hhhmm part with me.

4. When you know you're doing something bad and you say "No no!" to yourself.

5. The way you call Mimi or Dada to come get you in the morning.

6. The way you say Ma-ma sometimes, with the accent on the second syllable, like a little French boy.

yay

We missed you tons. Jackson told me he can't wait for you to get him in the morning and play with him!

valentine's week

It's my favorite holiday - Valentine's Day - on Saturday. Next year I hope to be doing some more crafty, arty projects to celebrate (like this, and this, and this) but this year Jackson, you're a little little.

something I want to remember

On the plane, on the way back from Florida last week, I didn't feel well. So I was leaning forward in my chair with my head down. Jon was rubbing my back, sitting on my left side. All of a sudden I felt a little hand on my right side - you were rubbing my back too.

You're my little sweetheart.

message

Last night when I went to go brush my teeth, I saw that you had left me a message on the bathroom mirror.

In pink crayon.

That made me smile out loud.

sign language

Yesterday you signed your version of i love you. It might have been the sweetest thing I've ever seen. And it totally made up for the way you flung all the laundry, that I had just folded and arranged in neat piles, off the the coffee table.

i love this picture

You might think this is a really bad picture. But I love it. Because it's you giving me a kiss.
