thanksgiving 2012

I often do this: think to myself, "this time I'm going to post these photos right away and be done with it!" This is what happens: I wait a week to upload the 1000 pictures from the camera, I'm not happy with most of them, I want to color correct some of them, I want to write a well-written, heartfelt post that explains in detail everything we did, ate, said....and why there is a creepy monkey in the pictures.....

And here it is OVER ONE MONTH after Thanksgiving, and I'm posting our family pictures..I tell you. I don't know.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! hahaahaha!

and finally.....thanksgiving 2012.

We had an wonderful time at Uncle Michaels..with fantastic food prepared by Gwyn and Lorna (best acorn squash ever) (best apple pie ever), good company, good walks in the woods, good giggles over kids falling from running on the hardwood floors - - and a certain someone opening the bathroom door on a certain someone else....Thank you Michael and Gwyn for another wonderful holiday at your house. We love you.

trains, trains and more trains

I swear Jackson could stand and watch toy trains for 4 hours straight. He can go a really long time without having to go to the bathroom or eat so it wouldn't be a problem.

When we were in Binghamton, we went to the Roberson Museum and they had a great train set-up. I love that last picture that Jon took because of the reflection in the plexi.

For Thanksgiving this year, Auntie Gwyn made the best t-shirts for everyone! Aren't they cool? The turkey is holding a sign that says 'Hollister' which is the name of their street. It was so fun to all wear matching t-shirts. Jackson got a special sweatshirt version that he has been wearing to school.

Thank you, Auntie!

thank you

Thank you Auntie Gwyneth and Uncle Michael for having us for Thanksgiving one day after you moved in!

We had so much fun and Jackson had a very hard time accepting that we were leaving on Saturday. The whole way back to Brooklyn he repeatedly asked to go back to Uncle Michael's.
I don't know if it was the dog, the truck, or being with everybody but he had a great time.

PS - This was his face in the car on the way home:

thanksgiving

This year we were lucky enough to spend Thanksgiving in Binghamton, NY at Auntie Gwyneth's parents Lorna and Conrad. As you can see from the pictures, the food was outstanding. Turkey, green beans, stuffing, ham (Jon's favorite), rich red cranberry relish, savory and sweet stuffed acorn squash, gravy, cheddar and corn muffins ~ and a roaring fire in the other room. And of course, the good company of our families being together.

Yet with all this delicious food, this is what Jackson and Cade had for their Thanksgiving dinner 2010: Jackson had four crackers with brie, and Cade had three quarters of a corn-cheddar muffin.

Then Cade almost knocked over Conrad's beautiful handmade console and proceeded to stomp on the dried flowers that were scattered on the floor.

Then we all drove over to Michael and Gwyn's NEW HOME!!! Which is fantastic, and huge, and light-filled, and spacious, and has more closets in its little finger than we have in our entire home here in Brooklyn.

We had pie, and pie and pie, and full bellies, and went to bed stuffed to the gills. More on the rest of the weekend soon.

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving too!

happiness is.....

savoring home-made english muffins, toasted with butter, from Abigail, sipping alpine-berry two leaves and a bud cup of tea from Bess, thumbing through Printing By Hand, from Abigail, while Jackson reads Around Town on the floor next to me by the couch.

b b b benny and the jets

Over Thanksgiving we went up to Uncle David's and Aunt Kim's. Cousins Catherine, Andrew, and Leo and Julian from Wisconsin were staying over on their way to Vermont. After dinner, Andrew and Jackson, and Jesse on drums, were jamming out - we were all dancing and singing. It was awesome. You, Jackson, were totally into it.

thanksgiving week

We had such a wonderful week at Mimi and Nonno's. We had so much to be thankful for - playing with new toys with Nonno, reading new books with Mimi, watching tractor shows on TV with Dada, bouncing with Uncle Michael on huge bouncy ball.

And did I mention Thanksgiving dinner? Butternut squash-from-Mimi's-garden soup to start, Nonno's delicious brined-overnight turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread & pecan stuffing (too sweet - don't use that recipe again), Gwyn's cheddar-chive biscuits, Kim's cranberry relish, green beans and almonds, Grammy's coleslaw...and yummy lemon chiffon tart, squash pies, and Gwyn's mom's apple pie with whipped cream AND ice cream. Dreamy.

And you, at the head of the table:

Happy Thanksgiving, 2008!
